Nambiti Game Reserve - Springbok Lodge (3)
/ I told you about two exciting moments, so here's the second incredible encounter
/ the collar contains a chip enabling the rangers to find the cheetahs when and if they escape, because then they might be shot at by the farmers who don't want the cheetahs to kill their livestock. The chip will help the rangers find the cheetahs before they are shot
the world's fastest animal... when it runs. Otherwise it's a big cat.
les traits noirs sous ses yeux, c'est pour être moins éblouis quand ils poursuivent une proie / the black stripes under the eyes help against the sun reflection when they are chasing a prey.
but actually we didn't meet one...
ni deux, ... / or two, ...
mais TROIS guépards!!!!!! Trois mâles, trois frères, tout tranquilles. / but THREE cheetahs!!!!! Three males, three brothers, very relaxed guys.
then the cheetahs left the track for the bush...
super camouflage ces pois, hein? / great camouflage these dots, don't you think?
The cheetahs are in the foreground, and in the background, do you see the chalets? That's where we slept!! Exciting, isn't it?
... and, er, no, there wasn't any fence around the camp.
It's really a splendid and elegant animal. An unforgettable encounter (another one).
Do you know cheetahs are often chased and killed
by lions and even hyenas? Their skull is apparently very fragile. And
eventhough they are the world's fastest animals, they can only run that
fast for a short distance, then they are out of breath, and their heart
beats too fast, they need a break. That's when they are caught. In this
young reserve, there are not a lot of lions, which explains why there
are quite a lot of cheetahs. In Madikwe, it's the opposite, too many
lions means it's difficult for cheetahs to survive.
