Je mets ce blog en pause jusqu'au début aout. Je suis pour l'instant
en vacance en France. Au mois d'août je vais faire une expo à Pretoria
avec tous les portraits que vous avez vus. Je vous laisse en leur
compagnie jusqu'à mon retour sur le net.
I'm taking a break until the beginning of
August. At the moment, I'm holidaying in France. In August, I wil have
a show in Pretoria exhibiting all the portraits you've already seen on
this blog. So I'll leave them to keep you company until I'm back.
Pour le challenge 1 croquis par semaine, je ferai une seance de rattrapage en rentrant!
/ No worries, mates, I will catch up the missing weeks of my 'one-sketch-a-week challenge' when I come back.

L'enfant est un peu raté, et sur l'agenda, pas moyen de rectifier! Tant pis! J'essaierai de faire mieux la prochaine fois! / The toddler is not very nice, but I can't mask my mistakes on the diary, so never mind, I'll do better next time (I hope)

comme celui là, pour une éventuelle expo.
Alors vous n'avez pas fini d'en voir!
(Et, oui, je ne suis pas très douée pur les titres; si vous avez d'autres idées, n'hésitez pas)
The teacher at the art class wants me to paint another 5 or 6 of these portraits for a possible exhibition. So you haven't seen the end of it, yet.
(And, yes, I'm not very good at titles; if you have better ideas, just let me know)

Femme, enfant et fleurs / Woman, child, and flowers
L'autre jour je me suis éclatée! Au lieu de vous montrer directement le résultat, j'ai pour une fois pensé à prendre pris les étapes en photos.
The other day I had such fun! Instead of showing the result, I'm going to show you step by step what I did and how.
D'abord j'ai découpé dans des magazines, des photos de tissus à fleur. J'ai fait un petit croquis sur une feuille de papier, puis j'ai collé certains de mes découpages.
First, I tore pictures of fabric with flowers in magazines. Then I made a quick sketch, and glued the torn pieces in some places.
Puis, à l'acrylique, j'ai peint rapidement,en complétant les échantillons de tissus à la manière des tissus, pour me donner une idée.
Then, using acrylic paint, I quickly painted to complete the picture trying to make roughly the same pattern as in the fabrics to give me an idea.
Comme le résultat m’a
plu, je me suis lancée sur un chassis.
As I liked the result, I started on a canvas. I first painted the different colours of the different backgrounds, and I quickly sketched the figure...

j’ai commencé à
peindre sa peau et ses cheveux,
I started to paint her skin and hair,
les motifs du fond, the patterns of the background,
les plis de la jupe,
du porte bb, les motifs sur le porte bb,
the folds of her skirt, the pattern on the scarf with which she carries her baby,
Après une petite
pause, je me suis rendue compte que la disposition de ces motifs à l’arrière ne
me plaisait pas, j’ai alors essayé de casser un peu cette « croix » et
les motifs en haut à droite ne me plaisaient pas non
plus.
After a short pause, I realised I didn't like the way the patterns at the back formed a kind of cross. And the patterns in the top right hand corner were not right either.
Et j’ai donc été
obligée de reprendre les motifs à nouveau . Travail des cheveux et des
mains.
So I had to work on the patterns some more. I then worked on the hair and hands.
Etape 10 – le voilà fini / here it is finished:
I really enjoyed this work, and I think I'm going to do it again! There are ways to improve the whole thing, like the composition of the background, but really, time has flown, and I love the result!
